Azeztulite : a commercial trap !

A new mineral is currently circulating on the mineralshows and on the web : azeztulite ! Beware, it is actually an inappropriate trade name ("misnomer") to designate quartz (or feldspars) often more or less yellowed by the presence of iron oxides. These stones come from Himalaya, North Carolina or Vermont, but potentially from anywhere ! This term allows some unscrupulous sellers to negotiate pieces of rough quartz sometimes more than €5 per carat (€25 per gram) ! Remember that quartz constitutes nearly 12% of the Earth's crust... 

There are both raw pieces (see photo) and polished or cut, usually in esoteric and lithotherapy shops.

Originally a prospector discovered in the northwestern part of America fragments of crystals that were first taken for phenakite and sold as such to esoteric shops... Discoverer had analyzed his crystals in a laboratory which were identified as simple clear feldspars. Resellers have all been informed of the mistake and have voluntarily created a new name in order to sell their goods...
