HUMMERITE
Class : Oxides and hydroxides
Subclass : Hydroxides and hydrates
Crystal system : Triclinic
Chemistry : KMgV5O14 8H2O
Rarity : Rare to very rare
Hummerite is a rare hydrated oxide of vanadium, potassium and magnesium. It is a secondary mineral deriving from the dissolution of primary vanadium minerals. It is found in the oxidation zone of areas containing vanadium, often uranium deposits. It owes its name to its location of discovery : the Hummer mine (Colorado). Hummerite is only known in orange-colored plating, veinlets and efflorescences.
