Phosphorites are sedimentary rocks formed from phosphate minerals, either amorphous or cryptocrystalline ("collophanite"), or finely crystalline (fluorapatite), belonging to the apatite group. These minerals are in the form of grains, epigenies of fragments of organic skeletons, finely crystalline beaches cementing various debris, or in concretionary nodules.
