What does polysynthetic mean in mineralogy ?

Polysynthetic : definition

This term designates a twin formed by the joining of a large number of lamellar crystals with a rotation of 180° around an axis normal to the joining plane. This is the classic plagioclase feldspar twin.

In thin section, this twin is identifiable by a zebra pattern in analyzed polarized light.
