What is a saprolite in geology ?
Saprolite : definition
In lateritic profiles, saprolite designates the weathered, often loose rock located between the sound underlying rock and the highly weathered zone of mottled clays above. In the saprolite, the structure of the parent rock is still recognizable. It is a zone of important chemical exchanges in which certain metallic elements (Fe, Al, Ni, etc.) begin to concentrate.
