SARTORITE
Class : Sulfides and sulfosalts
Subclass : Sulfides
Crystal system : Monoclinic
Chemistry : PbAs2S4
Rarity : Very rare
Sartorite is a very rare lead sulfoarsenide. Of hydrothermal origin, it is only listed in about ten sites in the world. It was named in honor of Professor of Mineralogy Wolfgang Sartorius von Waltershausen of the University of Göttingen (Germany). Dark gray in color, sartorite is very fragile, and appears in striated lamellar crystals. It is very difficult to distinguish from other lead sulfoarsenides without advanced analysis methods.
