What are sorosilicate in mineralogy ?
Sorosilicates : definition
Sorosilicates make up a subclass of the class of silicates, whose basic unit consists of two SiO4 tetrahedra sharing a vertex to form (Si2O7)6- groups, linked together by cations. Several minerals of this subclass contain both isolated tetrahedra and (Si2O7)6- groupings, joined together by chains of octahedra (these are sometimes called subsorosilicates).
The epidote group (epidote, clinozoisite, allanite, piemontite, etc...), vesuvianite and hemimorphite are the main minerals of this subclass which has about 120 minerals.
