What does volcano-sedimentary mean in geology ?
Volcano-sedimentary : definition
This term designates a geological formation or a process, relating to a mixed, volcanic and sedimentary phenomenology.
Epiclastites, volcanic ash reworked by alluvial transport before sedimentation are thus volcano-sedimentary formations. Oceanic sulfidic masses, created by precipitation and sedimentation on the ocean floor of fluids and volcanic materials, are also volcano-sedimentary formations. The same goes for the peperites of Limagne, a mixture of basaltic lava and carbonated materials resulting from phreatomagmatism (meeting of a magma and a waterlogged and unconsolidated sediment).
